Enclosed hood systems

Considerable savings through increased energy efficiency
The cost of energy in paper and board production represents the largest part of the production cost. This is why it makes so much sense to decrease the amount of steam used as much as possible, thus effectively increasing your profits.
Our enclosed hood system can lower the use of energy for a new as well as an existing production line. Our innovative and detailed approach to the engineering of each individual hood provides for:

Optimised drying

with less air which requires less energy to be heated.

Used heat is effectively

recovered and re-used, thus further decreasing energy costs.

Minimal heat leakages

through effective management of heat bridges.

No cross-directional

air flows.

Minimal heat leakage

into the production hall, which means less energy loss and further allows for savings through requiring less ventilation of the entire hall.

FALSE CEILING

One of the cornerstones of the energy efficiency of our enclosed hood solution is the engineering of the hood’s false ceiling. Its superior thick and high-density insulation has the capacity to perform at a high dew point (T dew 64°C, ≥160g H2O/kg d.a.), it is easy to mount and remove with a crane, and can be easily cleaned.

Apart from the above, our false ceiling also has another important advantage. As the exhaust air is collected into the false ceiling of the hood through adjustable openings, the amount of the exhaust air can be optimised by adjusting the openings across and along the paper direction. This effectively optimises the amount of exhaust air in each individual point along the production line. And this directly translates into less air and energy used.

What is more, the false ceiling traps the exhaust air and delivers it to the heat recovery system. And as the exhaust air has high humidity due to the high dew point enabled by our false ceiling, the heat recovery can be that much more efficient. More energy saved, and more unnecessary costs avoided!

BETTER PRODUCTIVITY

The surprising consequence of a superior enclosed hood system is the fact that the production itself can benefit greatly. Proper ventilation, which neutralises the possibility of condensation in air pockets, heat bridges and uneven air flow and humidity, will effectively increase the quality of the paper and board: there will be greater uniformity of grammage, humidity and density. And most importantly, the web edge air issues related over-drying can be avoided altogether.

There will also be beneficial consequences for the production line itself. The well-managed humidity and airflow conditions will allow for the production line to run at higher speeds with fewer paper breaks. However, in the case of a necessary maintenance intervention, our hoods come equipped with innovative systems which allow for easy access and fast servicing of the production line. And when the roof needs to be cleaned or maintained, it can be easily dismantled and mounted back. In other words: fewer and shorter downtimes.

LIFTING DOORS

When the production line needs to be accessed from the tending side, it is of the utmost importance that the access is easy and unencumbered. That is why our lifting doors allow for access along the entire production line, all the way from the front to the back, with no additional columns blocking the access in between. They also sport a clear window all the way along the tending side, allowing for the production personnel to easily follow the operation of the line and quickly react if necessary.

The default access height through our lifting doors is 2,2 m, but it can be increased up to 4 m for accessing three rolls machines.

The lifting doors can be lifted automatically, following a web break, or at will, whenever there is a need for an intervention. They are also more than safe - there are four safety mechanisms in place, meeting the highest international standards and preventing the doors from closing by themselves.

BETTER WORKING CONDITIONS

The Tip95 enclosed hood system transforms your production hall into a personnel-friendly environment, where the influences of heat, moisture, noise and dust coming from the production line are minimal. The dryer section of the machine level is covered with a closed hood, effectively allowing for the air conditions in the production hall to be managed independently of the production line. And when the lifting doors on the tending side need to be opened for maintenance, we have engineered the hood in such a way as to allow for the zero point to be at 1,5 to 2 meters, which is ideal from the ergonomics point of view.

We have also taken into account the user-friendliness of the walkways on the drive side: we have removed all of the obstacles and enabled maintenance staff to walk along the entire length of the line with no obstacles along the way. The roof itself is also stable enough to be walked on and provides easy access whenever there is a need for cleaning and maintenance of dryers, felts, or other production parts.
